Overview

Carnatic Music Tutor introduces raga basics through sequenced lessons, vocal demonstrations, and companion exercises. We translated the pedagogy of classical instructors into a mobile-first curriculum, complete with audio streaming, offline practice packs, and synced notation visuals.

Implementation Details

  • Designed adaptive lesson flows with bite-sized theory, call-and-response audio, and practice checkpoints.
  • Developed synchronized audio engine to display notation and lyric prompts in time with demonstrations.
  • Built CMS workflows for instructors to upload new ragas, alankaras, and quiz content with preview mode.
  • Implemented offline caching so learners could rehearse lessons without continuous connectivity.

The Problem

Aspiring singers lacked structured, on-the-go tools to practice Carnatic foundations. Traditional lessons required in-person attendance and instructors couldn’t easily distribute audio drills or track learner progress.

The Challenge

We needed to preserve cultural authenticity while making lessons approachable for modern learners. The app had to synchronize notation, audio playback, and pronunciation tips across iOS and Android with choppy network conditions in mind.

The Result

Within six months of launch the app recorded over 40,000 lesson completions, earned a 4.6-star average rating, and gave instructors a CMS to publish new alankaras and theory modules without additional builds.
